The Supreme Court will tomorrow (Wednesday) deliver verdict on the governorship election appeal between Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Dr. Alex Otti of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The Supreme Court fixed Wednesday for the hearing and as the news filtered in Abia state, people were seen discussing it in different places.
The newspaper stand is one place where supporters of the two parties were seen in clusters arguing and expressing confidence that their own candidate would emerge victorious.
Members of both parties have taken to the social media to express diverse opinions on what the verdict would be like. Those in the peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are optimistic based on the verdict of the supreme court delivered on the case between Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike of the PDP and APC’s Dakuku Peterside, which upheld Wike’s election and other similar verdicts.
But the supporters of All Progressives Grand Alliance are hoping on the verdict of the Appeal Court that was delivered at Owerri on 31st December, 2015,which invalidated the election of Dr. Ikpeazu following an appeal by Otti challenging the verdict of the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal which had earlier affirmed Governor Ikpeazu’s victory.
The Appeal court subsequently ordered that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) swear in Dr Alex Otti, but Governor Ikpeazu headed for the Supreme Court to recover his mandate.
