Tension is heightened again in the Edo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the September governorship election in the state following a renewed attempt to alter delegate lists.
The renewed fear may not have been unconnected with attempt by some highly placed party men to ensure that their loyalists are added on the delegate lists has however caused cold war among loyalists of aspirants
A Secretariat staff who does not want his name on print said, though effort has been made by some leaders to alter the list, it has however been rebuffed by Abuja.
He said “I can tell you that there was an attempt to alter the delegate lists and when they got to Abuja, the list was resisted and they have to bring it back to Benin
“One thing is clear about what our APC constitution says about delegate lists, it can not be altered, even if a member on that list is indisposed, his name cannot be replaced.
‘I really do not know why all these efforts to either adjust or alter the list just to favour one or two persons. The desperation by some persons to ensure that their aspirant gets our ticket is so frustrating and it is causing bad blood among party members .”
Reacting state publicity secretary, APC Godwin Erhahon denies any knowledge of such moves insisting that all matters relating to delegates is the prerogative right of the national secretariat
He added that it has been resolved that the delegate list of 2014 will be used and that delegate list is not such that any individual can just tamper with.
